In September 2021 Hughie and Freddie were recognised by BBC Radio Lancashire with a Make A Difference Award. They were given the Ben Ashworth Award for Fundraising at a prestigious event at Blackpool Winter Gardens. It was an extra special occasion as it was one of the first events they attended after COVID restrictions had been lifted.

The nominees were all incredible people who had gone above and beyond to help others. The boys were honoured to have been chosen as winners. Hosted by Graham Liver and attended by lots of Lancashire’s finest, Hughie and Freddie were delighted to meet some of Radio Lancashire’s presenters. They also met Lindsey Hoyle, speaker of the House Of Commons who invited them to London for a look around his offices!

The BBC Radio Lancashire Make A Difference Awards celebrate the unsung heroes across the county of Lancashire. Categories include Volunteer Of The Year, Carer and Young Carer, Community Hero and Community Project alongside a Companionship Award. It was also wonderful to see The Pride Of Lancashire award being won by the inspirational Laura Nutall who lives close to the boys.
You can nominate your unsung hero to win a Make A Difference award here: www.bbc.co.uk. It could be a volunteer, a neighbour or someone who you think deserves recognition. Andrew Bowman, Editor at BBC Radio Lancashire leads the panel who judge the nominations.
